Lamborghini Enters the World of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs)

After a string of social media posts that hint at it, Italian supercar-maker Lamborghini has finally announced its first NFT (non-fungible token) project. It's called Space Key and created in collaboration with an unidentified artist and built on a piece of advanced carbon fiber composite material that was delivered to the International Space Station for research purposes.

The latest project, named the Space Key, is a work that was created in collaboration with a unknown artist. The one-of-a-kind NFT is a physical item that connects to exclusive digital artwork that is accessible via a QR code on the back. The project is limited to five pieces and will be auctioned in the coming weeks.

The Space Key is made from carbon fiber composite materials that Lamborghini took to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of research project. When it returned to earth, carbon fiber was fashioned into this unique artwork. The physical element is inscribed with an NFT serial number, which is tied to the corresponding digital artwork via QR codes on the back.

For those not in the know, NFTs are distinct identification numbers that are stored on a distributed blockchain ledger. They are linked to a digital asset, such as a photo, video or music. This enables owners to guarantee the authenticity, scarcity and tracking of their tokens across the internet.

The physical element of the Space Key



After a series of social media posts that teased some kind of space-themed item, the Italian supercar manufacturer Lamborghini launched its non-fungible (NFT) tokens with an exclusive project called Space Key. Each Space Key contains a block made of advanced carbon-fire composite material. It was shipped to the International Space Station as part of a research project in 2019. After returning to Earth, the block was engraved with a QR codes that connect to the digital element in the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that occurs at different times as the Lamborghini Ultimae takes off towards the stars. More than 600 million pixels each of the five images which were shot by photographer Fabian Oefner.

Oefner used a balloon equipped with a camera that captured each of the individual images, that were then merged to create the final image. The result is a picture that is out of this world. It captures both the beauty of Earth and the futuristic, hyperrealistic picture of a car rising from the Earth. The Space Keys will be auctioned off soon, but the exact date and location of the auction haven't yet been announced yet.

The five NFTs are available for bidding by making an online registration. Each NFT will be auctioned off separately and the winner will get a digital artwork by renowned photographer Fabian Oefner that captures five different moments that the Space Key experienced during its journey through space.
